Food for the Soul, Clothes for the Cold2023 Soup for the soul Clothes for the Cold
The Community-wide Advisory Commission(CAC) is partnering with Davis Chapel Baptist Church, Divine Habitation Ministries International, Exquizid Cuts 2.0 and Eastside Barbershop to have open soup kitchens and clothes drives for those in need. On the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, starting Tuesday, November 14, 2023, Davis Chapel Baptist Church will be providing clothes and serving food to those in need of a meal from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Anyone that would like to donate clothes can drop them off at Aycock Recreation Center, Eastside Barbershop or Exquizid Cuts 2.0 barbershop. Anyone that would like to give donations to help cover the cost for food please contact Darius Pitt at 252-431-6099 or dariuspitt@henderson.nc.gov or contact Charles Turrentine Jr. at cturrentinejr@gmail.com.

Chess Club2024 Chess Club
Henderson-Vance Recreation and Parks Department is opening registration for chess club. Statistics show that people that play chess are better at problem solving and decision making. Playing chess has proven to enhance their creativity, critical thinking skills, academic performance and their ability to focus. Youth will learn to play chess and have the opportunity to compete in friendly competition with their peers. Register online at https://hvrpd.recdesk.com/ or at Aycock Recreation Center.


Teen Court
Teen Court Flyer 2023-24Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Department’s Youth Services Unit is looking for adult volunteers and youth volunteers ages 14-18 for Teen Court Club.  Teen Court Club is a group of youth volunteers that are trained under adult supervision to perform several duties during the Teen Court process. Youth volunteers serve as Defense Attorneys, Prosecutors, Bailiffs, Clerks and Jury Members. Adult volunteer roles include Jury Facilitator, Court Room Monitor, Attorney Coach, Teen Court Trainer or Guest Speaker.  For more information, please contact Darius Pitt at 252.431.6099 (dariuspitt@henderson.nc.gov).

GOLDEN AGE
Golden Age Club Flyer

REGION K SENIOR GAMES
The Recreation Department serves as the Vance County host for Region K Senior Games during the Spring.  Seniors age 50 and older can enjoy cornhole, table tennis, croquet, and badminton at the Aycock Recreation Center. VANCE COUNTY VIPs
Recreation activities are offered for area residents who have a visual impairment. The department offers a variety of monthly activities that include athletic programs, trips, support group meetings, family outings and special events. Average attendance for the group is 15. VANCE COUNTY SPECIAL OLYMPICS
Special Olympics strives to provide children and adults with intellectual disabilities hope for a healthier, longer, and more fulfilling life through sports training and competition that keeps them engaged in regular physical activity within a structured peer network. D.R.E.A.M  – Diverse Roles in Entertainment Arts and Music

The Henderson-Vance Recreation and Parks Department’s D.R.E.A.M  – Diverse Roles in Entertainment Arts and Music is a program that was developed to offer a widespread performing arts program that uses numerous instructional approaches in all aspects of entertainment for ages of 5-17. Participants may take up to two disciplines per session. These disciplines may include step, music, dance, modeling as well as production of these disciplines. Participants will showcase these acquired skills in a final performance after each session has been completed. These participants practice every Wednesday 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. and even more to prepare for performances at the Aycock Recreation Center.

HENDERSON VANCE TEEN COUNCIL
Do you want to learn the skills to be a leader, improve your public speaking skills and be a voice for your peers in the community?
