2022 Fireworks in the Park

HENDERSON-VANCE RECREATION AND PARKS DEPARTMENT WILL BE HOSTING IT’S ANNUAL FIREWORKS IN THE PARK EVENT ON FRIDAY, JULY 1, 2022. FOX POND PARKS WILL CLOSE AT 3:00PM AND NO PARKING WILL BE ALLOWED AT FOX POND PARK DURING THE EVENT. FREE SHUTTLING FROM AYCOCK RECREATION CENTER WILL BEGIN AT 5:00PM AND END AT 8:45PM.THERE WILL BE FOOD VENDORS. THE FIREWORK SHOW WILL START AT 9:00PM.

 

2022 Chess Club
2022 Chess Club

Henderson-Vance Recreation and Parks Department is introducing its first ever Free chess club. Statistics show that people that play chess are better at problem solving and decision making. Playing chess has proven to enhance their creativity, critical thinking skills, academic performance and their ability to focus. Youth will learn to play chess and have the opportunity to compete in friendly competition with their peers. Shop Talks
2022 Shop Talks

Henderson Vance Recreation and Parks Youth Services Department will be hosting Shop Talks. This is an opportunity for citizens in the Henderson-Vance Community to voice their opinions, and suggestions and an opportunity to inform the community of what action plans have been implemented since the 1st Shop Talk.  The event is offered by local barbershops in a comfortable environment with the goal of implementing other action plans using information gathered to improve the quality of life in this area. The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will also be holding a session at City Hall. 2022 Fashion Show Auditions

Henderson Vance Recreation and Parks Department will be holding auditions at Aycock Recreation Center for its 2022 Fashion Show. Registration will run from 1:00-1:30PM on Sunday, July 17, 2022 and auditions will be held from 1:30PM-4:00PM. Participants of all ages are welcome to audition. Looking for a great place for summer activities for youth ages 5-13 to attend this summer? Henderson-Vance Recreation & Parks Department’s Youth Services Unit is looking for adult volunteers and youth volunteers ages 14-18 for Teen Court Club.  Teen Court Club is a group of youth volunteers that are trained under adult supervision to perform several duties during the Teen Court process. Youth volunteers serve as Defense Attorneys, Prosecutors, Bailiffs, Clerks and Jury Members.   Adult volunteer roles include Jury Facilitator, Court Room Monitor, Attorney Coach, Teen Court Trainer or Guest Speaker.  For more information, please contact Shantel Hargrove at 252.430.0382 (shantelhargrove@henderson.nc.gov ) .

This class has been proven to decrease pain and stiffness while increasing flexibility and range of motion. Special Olympics Basketball

Vance County Special Olympics Basketball provides the opportunity for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in learning skills and competing in basketball.  Participants must be at least 8 years old and complete a Special Olympic Athlete Medical Form.   Please preregister at Aycock Recreation Center by Tuesday, March 15, 2022. .For more information, contact Crystal Allen at 252.431.6091 (crystalallen@henderson.nc.gov ).

REGION K SENIOR GAMES
The Recreation Department serves as the Vance County host for Region K Senior Games during the Spring.  Seniors age 50 and older can enjoy cornhole, table tennis, croquet, and badminton at the Aycock Recreation Center. VANCE COUNTY VIPs
Recreation activities are offered for area residents who have a visual impairment. The department offers a variety of monthly activities that include athletic programs, trips, support group meetings, family outings and special events. Average attendance for the group is 15. VANCE COUNTY SPECIAL OLYMPICS
Special Olympics strives to provide children and adults with intellectual disabilities hope for a healthier, longer, and more fulfilling life through sports training and competition that keeps them engaged in regular physical activity within a structured peer network. D.R.E.A.M  – Diverse Roles in Entertainment Arts and Music

The Henderson-Vance Recreation and Parks Department’s D.R.E.A.M  – Diverse Roles in Entertainment Arts and Music is a program that was developed to offer a widespread performing arts program that uses numerous instructional approaches in all aspects of entertainment for ages of 5-17. Participants may take up to two disciplines per session. These disciplines may include step, music, dance, modeling as well as production of these disciplines. Participants will showcase these acquired skills in a final performance after each session has been completed. These participants practice every Wednesday 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. and even more to prepare for performances at the Aycock Recreation Center.
